Meet Philip Sutherland: Ambry Global Business Analyst

As an Ambry Global Business Analyst, Philip Sutherland describes himself as someone who helps businesses solve problems with technical solutions by writing software requirements. He also liaises between technical and business stakeholders to explain how the two entities can better work together.

For more than 20 years Sutherland has worked as an IT and business analyst for different companies, and for 10 of those years, he lived and worked in Japan. This combination made Sutherland the ideal person to join the Ambry global team working on clinical tests for the Japanese market. As part of his role, he provides technical analysis and bilingual communications assistance for Konica Minolta and REALM.

Sutherland describes his workday: “I spend a lot of time with my notes and in Jira and on TEAMS organizing and refining my analysis of the information I’ve gathered from meetings, emails, chats and documents I’ve received from stakeholders.”

He’s currently working on several projects, including launching NIPT and Carrier Screening products for Ambry. He is also supporting the GenMineTOP Oncology panel launch, regulatory approval of a BRCA-CDx panel and CARE ProgramTM development in Japan.

Sutherland enjoys his work at Ambry. He’s inspired by “working with people of various professional and personal backgrounds in a collaborative environment to achieve our goals together,” he says. “I love talking and learning from my co-workers about the many interesting things we do as a business.”

One experience he had with his coworkers shows his great relationship with his team. “I recently had a birthday while traveling on business, and my colleagues surprised me with a candle, fruit plate, card and some gifts, which was really sweet,” Sutherland says.

Sutherland lives in Southworth, Washington, with his wife Shiyi and 2-year-old husky/shepherd mix named Suna. When he’s not working or acting as a diplomat and translator, Sutherland enjoys sailing, bicycling, kayaking, hiking and helping Shiyi run a few Airbnbs.
